The Beginners Guide to Meditation
You don’t have to be an expert practitioner to get benefits from meditation - you just have to start.
I’m sure that you’ve got friends or family members who swear by their 20 or 30 minutes a day of meditation, and of course we’ve all heard celebrities say they couldn’t live without it. What’s so great about it anyway?
Mindfulness practice, or meditating, can be very helpful to your body, mind and spirit:
more calmness and mental stability
increased focus, ability to concentrate, attention to details and productivity
less emotional distress, anxiety and stress
better sleep
A FEW EASY STEPS BASED ON CONCEPTS FROM MINDFUL.ORG:
How to Meditate
Take a seat. Find place to sit that feels calm and quiet to you.
Set a time limit. Maybe 15-20 minutes to start.
Notice your body. Concentrate and slow your body.
Feel your breath. Be calm and restful.
Notice when your mind has wandered.
Be kind to your wandering mind. Don’t judge, just flow.
Close with kindness. Think positively and set a positive association.
